Hieronymus Bosch was a painter from the Netherlands who worked during the latter half of the 15th century. He is famous for his bizarre images depicting demons, angels, and strange creatures. One of his most famous paintings that features these creatures is the Garden of Earthly Delights.
These pieces would go on to inspire the works of Pieter Breugel the Elder among the slew of artists that saw his works.
If you wish to see many of Bosch’s oddly compelling works, the Garden of Earthly Delights and a significant number of others can be found at the Museo del Prado in Madrid. Many of them ended up in Spain because Bosch’s paintings were particularly popular with Phillip II of Spain. While the Museo del Prado houses many spectacular paintings, these works of Bosch are a hidden gem among many other masters.
