The British Museum infamously holds the art and artifacts of the numerous cultures that Britain colonized during the height of its empire. As such, it is one of the most massive collections in the world. If you want to see it all, be sure to plan for more than one day and try and tackle it one wing at a time.
If you want to see some of the highlights just a few include: The Rosetta Stone, which helped us translate Egyptian Hieroglyphics. The Sutton Hoo Helmet, one of the greatest Anglo-Saxon relics discovered. The very controversial Parthenon Marbles, taken from Athens’ Parthenon Temple. (Greece continues to seek its repatriation.) Finally, pieces from the Library of Ashurbanipal, some of over 22,000 cuneiform tablets that have drastically shaped our understanding of the ancient world.
