Detroit? Whaat?

Detroit–yes, THAT Detroit–is returning as a tourist destination. A year ago, I was helping my sister in California sign up for a new bank account. As we were chatting, the bank manager (a thirty-something) began talking with great delight about the vacation she and her husband had just spent in Detroit-and how much they had loved it. We’ll be sharing a few posts about the Detroit art scene to explain why.

Exhibit A is the venerable Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) with a superb collection, especially its world famous Diego Rivera Detroit Industry murals.

And while you are there, you must have a Detroit Coney dog. The only problem is you must choose between next door neighbors and competitors–American or Lafayette. Both have their passionate supporters.
